you for your interest in the Pinebridge Inn. This historic site was built in the early
1920’s, and served for over half a century, as the county’s elementary through
high school facility. The old Harris School closed in 1977 when a new county facility
opened a few miles from town.
The Pinebridge Inn was established in 1983, when a Spruce Pine native and owner of Buck
Stove Corporation purchased the main school buildings, gymnasium and other structures. To
preserve these historic structures the new owner attended during his school years, he
renovated the entire campus that now proudly stands as the Pinebridge Inn. Unable to save
the gymnasium, it was replaced with a modern structure that now houses a fitness center,
pool, activity center, including one of the largest indoor ice-skating rinks in the
Southeast, and a Youth Retreat Center.
The Pinebridge Inn consists of two buildings separated by a lovely courtyard housing
forty-five spacious rooms and suites, a dining facility, meeting space including a 3400
square foot conference room that was once the school’s auditorium. All very
beautifully decorated, each room features high ceilings and picturesque windows that
emanate a wonderful atmosphere of historic charm. It’s educational beginnings are
remembered often by former teachers and students who find themselves once again roaming
the halls of the old Harris School – now guests of the premiere facility in the area
for comfort and hospitality.
