| Along the Mission
Crossing Scenic By-Way, you'll discover an enchanted river valley, rustic countryside, and
a place Charles Kuralt called "a destination." That place is the Mast
General Store in the rural historic district of Valle Crucis. Since 1883, we've been
outfitting the Appalachians with traditional mercantile goods, comfortable clothing,
rugged footwear and quality outdoor gear for all mountain seasons. When in the North
Carolina High Country, we invite you to warm up by our potbellied stove, mail a letter
at our antique post office and discover for yourself why... Some times are just too good
to leave behind.
Items found in the store today range from the hard-to-find part for your Aladdin Lamp
to cast iron cookware to Amish Rockers and from traditional casual clothing from Woolrich
and Northern Isles to technical outerwear and camping gear from Solstice, Columbia, and
Sierra Designs. The Candy Barrel features over 450 favorites of today and yesterday in one
place. The Original Store in Valle Crucis can still take care of your feed needs, too -
